With every new day comes new hope.

Change of Runners.

Unfortunately Lynne has had to withdraw from the race.  She had an accident over the weekend and has a severely injured hand.  With only five weeks to the race this is a terrible blow for S.L.A.P.  They are all rallying around and have decided to try to get a replacement runner.  Heather will now run leg five - The Raft Race Home.  She feels very sentimental about the race and wants someone who has been involved in this from the beginning to finish the race for us. 

We now have a replacement runner for Leg one.  Sean, our back up runner has agreed to take on Leg one.  He has been training over the last year just incase one of us did get injured so he is great shape and we have every confidence in him.  "Thanks Sean!"

We are a team of five Albertans, all from The Foothills of Alberta.  None of us, apart from Kim have any real endurance running background.  We have got together and started training to take part in the Canadian Death Race, held in Grande Cache in August 2006.  The Death Race is a 125km endurance race, over 24 hours and three mountains.  The race itself is made up of five legs and each runner will complete one leg each.  Check out our team bio's for individual information on each runner and which leg they are running.

We are running the race for several different reasons.  The main and most important reason is to raise awareness of domestic violence in Canada.  Domestic violence is a very common occurance, but a very 'taboo' subject.  Noone likes to talk about it, or even admit it happens.  The very sad and frightening fact is that it happens regularly and alot of people who are victims of domestic violence need help, fast.

 We do need to make people of Canada more aware of how common domestic violence is but we also hope to raise greatly needed funds for the Eagle Women's Emergency Shelter too.  The shelter is one of a few rural shelters, also in The Foothills. Unfortunately  there are not enough rural shelters in Canada.  Most of the shelters are city based and more rural shelters need to be built and developed.  Domestic violence happens all over the world, not just in cities.  People in rural communties need to know there are places of safety families can go for help when they are in danger. 

It is time to stand up and say 'No!"  No more domestic violence.  No more domestic abuse.  We plan on letting victims know there are places they can go, people who will help and that noone needs to live with this appalling cruelty any longer. 

Please help us to help others.  Stand up to domestic violence and say 'No more".
